We are a mixed group of Christians who regularly meet together in Orkney, united by our faith in Jesus as our saviour and lord. We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God and so look to follow it's instructions regarding matters of faith and practice.

What is the Gospel?
The word 'gospel' means 'good news'. Specifically, it's the news of Jesus Christ and how He has accomplished salvation for a doomed mankind. More broadly speaking, the gospel is the overall message conveyed in the Bible, which Christians believe to be the word of God.
the Bad News
Unfortunately, we humans are inherently sinful by our very nature, and everyone is guilty of wrong.
Of course, this doesn't mean we're incapable of being kind or doing what is noble. But since we have sinned we are tainted by imperfection and have thus fallen short of righteousness.
...we are therefore not worthy of Heaven (which, just to emphasise is God's holy dwelling place and the realm of life and light!)
Instead we are bound for the opposite extreme.
Even if we do our best to lead a benevolent life, we'd still not meet the perfect standard, so in order for us to go to Heaven, sin must somehow be removed or accounted for. We need to be saved from our predicament.
Ecclesiastes 7:20

Good News
The good news is that God knows our situation, and loves the world so much that He provides a way of salvation through His son Jesus Christ.
Having lived a sinless life, Jesus's sacrificial death paid the penalty of sin in our place. He then rose from the grave, demonstrating that His sacrifice was sufficient to pay for mankind's sin.
This gift of salvation is received by anyone who, turning in repentance to God, places their faith in Christ.

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
Acts
20:21
I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus
Ephesians
2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
The above is a brief summary of the core message of Christianity.
Contrary to traditional opinion, the church is not a community of pure and perfect people. We are simply a group of people from Orkney and beyond who have placed our faith in Jesus.
